Dusting off the cobwebs

Wed, 05 Oct 2011 16:44:54

We’ve been pretty busy lately, and all the while our portfolio has gathered a few cobwebs.  I know it’s not quite spring time, but its never a bad idea for some spring cleaning.  Check in soon for some new additions, including some ground breaking projects we’re working on to push the boundaries of web development as we know it.

The Possibilities...

I’m constantly amazed by the level of creativity and technological advancement of the past 15ish years, more specifically as it relates to web content.  Back then the web industry was bogged down pretty heavily with limitations of low bandwidth, slow user connection speed, minimal storage, and incapable languages and browsers.  Like any industry, the world wide web had to start somewhere, and upon looking back the roots seem QUITE laughable.  In fact, this is what Yahoo (the #1 website of that time) looked like when I started coding websites for fun as a 9 year old -> http://web.archive.org/web/19970605005803/http://www.yahoo.com/ .  I remember thinking as a kid how AMAZING it was that yahoo could animate images on my screen, and that I could use their service to live chat with people on the other side of this planet.  And as cool as some of that stuff still is, we have even crazier mind-blowing tools, features, and apps that make all of that look like child’s play.  We’ve come a pretty far way!

It sort of beckons the question, what will people remember about the websites of our current day?  How do we develop sites, tools, and apps that people will look back on 15 years from now and think “that was really ahead of its time!”?
